Crunchy Before it Was Cool
I was indeed crunchy before it was “cool”. Now my friends are all discussing vegan recipes or trying to persuade each other to go “Paleo”, but as a child in the 70’s/80’s, I grew up with whole foods, essential oils, carrot juice and organic gardening.
As a newlywed, I influenced my hubbie as much as I could. Although I never was able to get him to eat tofu, and he still is not fascinated by solar power, we were as “green” as possible before our friends even knew what that meant!
As a new mom, I found that although my “mom friends” loved me, they didn’t always understand my horror of fast food and my excitement about compact fluorescent light bulbs!
We Don’t Do Math
Well, ok – we do math, but we have a lot of help with it!
Our family tends to lean towards the arts, music and literature, so our homeschool never looked like school at home!
People mean different things when they use the word “creative”, To many the word has connotations of being “artistic” or “musical”, so if they don’t have talents in those areas, they assume that they are not creative at all.
There is so much more to it than that!
One dictionary definition I found states that creativity is…
cre·a·tiv·i·ty [kree-ey-tiv-i-tee, kree-uh-] noun
1. the state or quality of being creative.
2. the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.; originality, progressiveness, or imagination: the need for creativity in modern industry; creativity in the performing arts.
3. the process by which one utilizes creative ability: Extensive reading stimulated his creativity.
There are many ways of being creative!
Creativity can look like innovation: taking something old and using it in a new way – like re-purposing or recycling!
Everyone is creative even though we all express our creativity in different ways; in our homes, jobs, our education and our hobbies.
I love to share crunchy and creative ideas.
I got some crazy looks over the years, but it has all been worth it to see so many people concerned and informed about health and our environment today!
